Our Voices, New Seas
Ken Arkind, Action Education
Spoken Word poetry has become a global phenomenon among young people as it serves as a safe and uncensored space to speak truth into power. In Aotearoa we have seen this medium elevate to bold new heights, the spoken word community here is both thriving and ground breaking. It’s a powerful and accessible platform that when nurtured well and can become a tool for young people to navigate and find their place in the world. This experiential workshop will be begin with a spoken word performance from both youth workers and young people. You will take part in activities and be introduced to tools to help guide and support young people to reflect on their journey and craft their experiences and world view through this medium. Along the way we will explore how to curate a space which is safe, supportive and creative. Each participant will walk away with a poem they have written.
